Group Theory Programme

  • Specially designed by Theory Coordinator Dr. Chow Jun Yan, The Music Studios' THEORY PROGRAMME is split into three levels, each preparing students for the ABRSM GRADED THEORY EXAMINATIONS thus:
    1. JUNIOR THEORY (recommended for ages 7-9): Grades 1-2
    2. INTERMEDIATE THEORY (recommended for ages 10-12): Grades 3-5
    3. SENIOR THEORY (recommended for ages 13-15): Grades 6-8

  • Each level includes MOCK EXAMINATIONS for each grade. However, going beyond learning theory on paper, our syllabus includes
    1. EAR TRAINING (for eg., melodic and rhythmic dictation, sight-singing)
    2. KEYBOARD SKILLS (for eg., improvisation and harmonic familiarity)​

  • This programme enhances a student’s MUSICIANSHIP SKILLS to a depth that is hard to attain in usual hourly practical lessons due to time constraints. It also provides a RELEVANT LINKAGE TO INSTRUMENTAL TRAINING.
 
  • REGISTRATION IS OPEN all year round. Individual sessions are offered in person at Dr. Chow's teaching studio or via Zoom. If there are sufficient students at the same level commencing at the same time, group sessions may be offered.
